Jan Hoyland is a widely experienced horticulturalist, designer and gardens manager. She is an accomplished plantswoman with a good eye for planting design both in fine detail and within the wider landscape. She has specialised in the restoration and redevelopment of historic gardens and can bring that expertise to create stunning gardens in a wide variety of spaces and places.

She is a passionate advocate of sustainable and beautiful gardens which can benefit wildlife as well as people both in the private and public domain. From advice, to design and project management, Jan is a capable and knowledgeable guide and can work alongside you to help you create your ideal garden.

She qualified in Horticulture from Askham Bryan College, York, and trained at Cambridge University Botanic Gardens before working for many years as a Head Gardener for the National Trust and as Curator of the Yorkshire Arboretum, Kew at Castle Howard.

Jan is also a fully qualified professional tree inspector, surveying trees for safety inspections and development sites. She has gained a full Permaculture Design Certificate, a BSc in Environmental Studies (O.U.), and a IOSHH ‘Managing Safely’ qualification.
